ABOUT

Raised in a New York church, Michelle David began singing at four and joined her first group at five. Before moving to Europe, she toured worldwide with Broadway productions, starred in theatre shows like The Sound of Motown and Mahalia, and recorded for stars such as Diana Ross and Michael Bolton.

With Paul Willemsen, Onno Smit and Bas Bouma, she formed Michelle David & The True-Tones, evolving from the acclaimed Gospel Sessions into a band with a unique sound: rooted in gospel, branching into soul, funk, Afrobeat and rhythm & blues.

The group has released seven acclaimed albums (The Gospel Sessions Vol. 1–4, Truth & Soul, Brothers & Sisters) and earned praise including BBC 6 Music’s Album of the Year, FIP’s Album of the Month and an Edison nomination.

On February 27, 2026, they returned with their most personal record yet: Soul Woman—a reflection on identity, healing and growth, inspired by Bobby Womack, Curtis Mayfield and D’Angelo.

On stage or in the studio, Michelle David & The True-Tones radiate joy, grit and groove. Their music uplifts, empowers and connects.
